Dancing with the Stars

1 06 2008

I am hooked…

I have been watching Dancing with the Stars… starting from season 5… being introduced by my house mate, Donny. He was into all these dancing… as he learnt Salsa.. So eventually I also was intrigued and allured by the fantastic performers/dancers..

Dancing with the stars is the name of a group of international television series based on the format of the British series Strictly Come Dancing. It is a dance competition of a star (of different fields .. can be a singer, an actor, a racer, a athelete…etc ) partnering with a professional dancer who each week compete against each other in a dance-off to impress a panel of judges and ultimately the viewing public in order to survive the potential elimination. Through a telephone and sms voting, viewers vote for the duo they think should remain in the competition. Judges scores are also taken into account and are combined with the viewer votes when determining which duos stay and go each week.

Much credits should be given to these professional dancers. They need to choreograph the whole dance routines with various themes (Mambo, Cha Cha, Paso Doble, Jive, Freestyle, Venice, Waltz, Rhumba, Samba Quick step, Foxstra), teach the Stars those dancing skills & steps, and eventually turn the Stars (who may not have any dancing backgrounds at all) into dancers within such short period of time. Gosh!! Plus they also have the stress not to make any mistakes in the performances since they are supposedly the experts here.. *sweating*

There are 3 judges in Dancing with the Stars. The chief judge Len Goodman, and other 2 judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. I kind of fond of them… Len Goodman, a professional ballroom judge, looks like a wise and serious man, when he smiles … how charming and captivating…. =) Bruno Tonioli (a film, Music video & Theatre Choreographer and dance producer) is always forever very passionate and loud in sharing his view and sometime his view clashes with Len Goodman. Carrie Ann Inaba, a Choreographer and dance producer, is the only female judge, looks pretty and sexy too… =)

The judges of the dwts – Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli

Host of the dancing the stars, Tom Bergeron … I also like him.. very witty, charming and able to handle the whole situation..

The host of dwts – Tom Bergeron and his co-host Samantha Harris

Season 5

In Season 5, it was a very stiff competition with Helio and Mel B in the final round. Personally I thought Mel B will win this competition as her performances has been very consistently good throughout. She is hot and sexy. But I also like the partnership with Helio and Julianne too.. Helio is charming and Julianne is sweet and pretty.. They eventually won the competition by the tiny margin..

Helio Catroneves (a Racer) and his dance pro partner, Julianne Hough… I like their freestyle and their quickstep which both scored 30 perfect points each.

dwts – Season 5 – Star Helio Catroneves and her partner Julianne Hough (Quick Step Dance)

Melanie B from Spice Girl (also known as Scary Spice Girl or Mel B) and her dance pro partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy . Two of her best performances where they got perfect score – the Mambo and the Paso Doble.

dwts – Season 5 – Star Melanie Brown and her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy (MAMBO dance)

Season 6

In the first premier night of Dancing with the Star, Season 6, we have the pro’s performing Cha cha cha on the first night and introducing the stars and their dancers. In season 6, we have:

Kristi Yamaguchi (Olympic Champion Skater in 1992 and Gold Championship in 1994) and her dance pro partner, Mark Ballas. They won the Season 6. Some of the perfect score dances – Jive and freestyle. I also like their Tango 1st time & Tango 2nd time. They also appeared and performed in Ellen show.

dwts – Season 6 – Star Kristi Yamaguchi and her partner Mark Ballas

Jason Taylor (NFL Man of the Year) and his dance pro partner, Edyta Sliwinska. His quick style won him a 30 perfect score. He got 2nd.

dwts – Season 6 – Star Jason Taylor and his partner Edyta Sliwinska (Paso Doble Dance)

Christian de la Fuente (International Television Star) and his dance pro partner, Cheryl Burke. It is unfortunate that Christian got injured during the competition. Nevertheless, they got 3rd!

Marissa Jaret Winokur (Tony Winning Broadway Star) and her dance pro partner, Tony Dovolani.

Mario (R&B Star) and his dance pro partner, Karina Smirnoff.

Shannon Elizabeth (Film and Television Star – famously known for acting in American Pie, plays Poker competively) and her dance pro partner, Derek Hough.

Marlee Matlin (Oscar Winning Actress) and her dance pro partner, Fabian Sanchez.

Priscilla Presley (actress and businesswoman, best known for marrying Elvis Presley) with her dance pro partner, Louis Van Amstel.

Adam Carolla (Comedian and Radio Host) and his dance pro partner, Julianne Hough.

Dancing With the Stars - Season 6

I like Kristi Yamaguchi.. partly she is the female representative for this season 6, she is also Asian.. and she dances well! =)

I’m also impressed with Marlee Matlin. She is deaf and can’t hear the music, yet can be very confident and pretty to perform all those dances.. *BRavoo*

Shannon has beautiful sexy and long legs.. *yummy*

Jason and Christian are very musculine and handsome… *yummy*

Enjoyed the performances by the Junior dancers especially Junior Champions – Their skill and performaces is top and even much more interesting than some/most of the adult dancers.

Overall, I enjoyed their group dance in season 6 – very fun and entertaining!! =) Group dance in season 5 was not bad too.. But I personally like the Season 6 more..

But have to admit that I think Season 5 is more interesting and fun with stiff competition with Mel B and Helio. Unlike this Season 6, where Kristi has clearly won the competition by a large gap right from the beginning.

As for the professional dancers, I like Julianne Hough. From youtube, I learnt that she is also a singer… She partnered Helio in season 5 and both won the championship then.. Her brother is also a professional dancer, Derek Hough.

With such natural disasaters like SiChuan China Earthquake and Mymmar Cyclone that killed lots of people, I really felt anger, sick and pity of this man-made tragedy.. Totally unbelievable…

This Fritzl case has drawn world media attention and shocked the whole world.  Imagine this 73-year-old Austrian man, Josef Fritzl, had built a ‘kingdom’ in his basement cellar, in Amstetten home. He had a double life…  Worse he captivated his daughter, Elisabeth, in his cellar for 24 years, raping her (stating the urge for tasting forbidden fruit was too strong!!) and fathering 7 children with her, where most of them have never seen daylight or got out from the cellar…

It is stated that Fritzl acted with premeditation when he began building the underground cellar six years before he seized his daugther. It was assumed that he had already selected his daughter Elisabeth, who was to become a prisoner of the concrete dungeon.

The authorities said Mr. Fritzl confessed Monday to imprisonment, sexual abuse and incest. The case has left this town of 22,000 people, 80 miles west of Vienna, in stunned disbelief.  “One cannot comprehend the dimension of this,” said Doris Bichler, 34, a neighbor. “Natascha Kampusch was bad, but this is of a totally different scale.” Ms. Bichler was referring to the notorious kidnapping of an Austrian schoolgirl, who was hidden in a windowless cellar for eight years until she escaped in August 2006. Until now, the Kampusch case was considered by many as the epitome of depravity in the post-World War II history of this country.

1977: Elisabeth Fritzl claims she was first abused by her father Josef when aged 11.

1984: Elisabeth is allegedly lured into house cellar, drugged and handcuffed by her father. She is forced to write letters saying she has run away.

1988: Her first child, Kerstin, is born.

1989: Elisabeth gives birth to her first son, Stefan.

1993: Nine-month-old Lisa is left on the doorstep of the Fritzl house.

1994: Another child, Monika, arrives and is adopted by the Fritzls.

1996: Elisabeth gives birth to twins, but one dies after three days. Josef allegedly burned the body.

1997: Alexander, the surviving twin, joins the children upstairs.

2003: A letter from Elisabeth arrives saying she had a second son, Felix, the previous year. He is raised in the cellar.

April 19:
Kerstin is taken to that hospital after falling serious ill. Doctors discover that her grandfather is her father.

April 20-27: Josef releases Elisabeth, Stefan and Felix and tells his wife they are returning.

April 26:
Police pick up Josef and Elisabeth near the hospital where Kerstin is being treated.

April 27: Josef admits his guilt after Elisabeth’s statement.

April 28: Police search house and discover cramped cellar with special security door.

April 29: Josef appears in court.

Another piece of news has been hogging the international headlines for weeks. A man-made tragedy. So which is more tragic? The doing of Mother Nature or that of Man?
This man, Josef Fritzl, kept his daughter in a cellar for a quarter of a century and had 7 children with her. Recently, because one of the cellar children got really sick, he brought her to the hospital and the entire scandal came to light.
