Lip Synch Saga of Olympic Opening

15 08 2008

I like this scene where the children get to perform at the beginning of the Beijing Olympic Ceremony 2002 on 08th Aug 2008.. This little girl singing the “Ode to the Motherland”, while other children dressed in China’s 56 tribes clothing carrying the China’s national flag – very heart warming

Later, then I realized lots of reports reporting that this little girl, Lin Miaoke, 9 years old,  who has such sweet face and sweet voice… is not the real singer… Behind this angelic voice, is a another younger little girl, Yang Peiyi, 7 years old, who was supposedly singing in the “Bird’s Nest”, but was replaced after the officials deemed her face was “not suitable” (not cute/not the kind of image China wants to portray) for the opening ceremony. So here comes the “Lip Synched” saga…

A little girl and her song captivated millions of viewers during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. But what they saw was not what they heard.

Games organizers confirm that Lin Miaoke, who performed “Ode to the Motherland” as China’s flag was paraded Friday into Beijing’s National Stadium, was not singing at all.

Lin was lip-syncing to the sound of another girl, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was heard but not seen, apparently because she was deemed not cute enough.

“The reason was for the national interest,” said Chen Qigang, the ceremony’s musical director, in a state radio interview. “The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. … Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects.”

The decision was made at the highest levels, Chen said.

“We had to do it,” he said. “We’d been through several inspections. They’re all very strict. When we rehearsed at the spot, there were several spectators from various divisions, especially leaders from the Politburo, who gave the opinion it must change.”

I felt pity for Peiyi that such eventful glory should be rightful hers, yet was stolen from her because of her appearance..  In fact, I felt that she is also very cute..  And what kind of message is China sending out to the world??? With this incident, there is lots of people/media attacking China for being fake, doctrine… Coz there was another issue of the some fireworks was also being pre-recorded…

So there was lots of words-exchange in the internet..

Below is what I extracted from someone’s comment in youtube:

Superman is real.
Pamela Anderson’s boob is real.
Michael Jackson’s face is real.
Roswell alien is real.
Hilary dodging bullets in Bosnia is real.
American are not racist against African is real.
Even Santa clause is real.

Lewinsky gave Clinton a blowjob is fake.
Paris Hilton’s porn tape is fake.
Invasion on Iraq is fake.
Marion Jones took steroid is fake.

Yup surely America is perfect 🙂

Also see here, which is interesting…. Listen to this:

Ok everybody has every thing to say about China nowadays.. good and bad…

Like even dressing was criticized, like Liu Huan who was singing the Olympic Game Theme song “You and Me” 《我和你》with Sarah Brightman was criticized for wearing just a black Tshirt (undressed!) hahaaa  -_-“”

Oh btw side-track a bit, there is this joke on “YOU and MI”:

IRREVERENT websites, e-mail and text messages about the Games abound in China’s cyberspace. For example, the tender song You And Me at the opening of the Beijing Olympics is said to be about oil and food prices. “The Chinese name of the theme tune ‘You and Me’ is ‘You (oil 油) and Mi (rice 米)’, an expression of concern about this year’s oil and food problems,” runs an online joke.

Oh well.. I guess the mouths grow on their face, so they are entitled to have their comments. Face the fact, you just cannot please everyone..

Of course little Peiyi, appeared on China Central Television, the state network, saying: “I’m okay with it. My voice was used in the performance. I think that’s enough.” No hard feelings for Yang Peiyi that the stand-in Lin Miaoke has stolen the thunder from her.

Well.. I guess she has to say that.. She is innocent.. she just want to contribute to her nation….
