“Funeral” is a new TV commerical launched by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) which looks at relationships in a different light, through a woman at her husband’s funeral. Ultimately, the TVC celebrates the beautiful imperfections that make a relationship perfect. This is fresh off MCYS latest Viewers’ Choice 2008 win for last year’s Family TVC which promotes the importance and value of family bonding.

(ST) Director Yasmin Ahmad’s new commercial to get Singaporeans married is set at a funeral. The advertisement, which debuted on television on Sunday, is set at a funeral, depicts an interracial marriage and talks about bodily functions.
In MCYS’ latest message, it all starts with a Funeral – 7 Apr 2009
(TODAY) To address the rise in the number of singles and the increase in divorces, MCYS starts its pro-family message with an ending — a widow at her husband’s funeral. Instead of eulogising his achievements, she talks about his snoring and how he would break wind in bed.

MCYS commissions commercial that looks at relationships in different light

SINGAPORE: Looking at relationships in a different light – that’s what the latest commercial commissioned by Singapore’s Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) aims to achieve.

Produced and directed by acclaimed and award-winning film director Yasmin Ahmad, it is a story about how imperfections make a relationship perfect.
The story shows a widowed wife talking about how she appreciated her late husband’s imperfections and how the love they shared helped him to overcome those imperfections.
The commercial will be aired on television on Sunday after the different news bulletins and will continue to be aired on Suria, Vasantham, Channels 5 and 8 till April 16.

The commercial will also run on TV Mobile, and will be shown at the cinemas from April 16 to May 13.

MCYS Family television commercial won the Gold Award at the Viewers’ Choice Awards 2008 – 31 Mar 2009
(TODAY) The three-minute TVC, conceptualised by advertising agency Asatsu-DK Singapore and directed by award-winning Malaysia-based film director Yasmin Ahmad, focused on the parent-child relationship between a single father and his daughter, instead of the conventional “perfect” family.
