Pulau Ubin Trip

29 04 2009

Joanne, Josephine, Paulyn and juskawaime went for a short break to Pulau Ubin on 10th April 2009, Good Friday holiday.

Our aim is to go Chek Jawa to catch the marine life during the low tide + enjoying the nature walk + Seafood dinner. No cycling for us (something which people normally do in Pulau Ubin to get around), we decided to go on foot since both Jo do not know how to cycle. But we will opt for the van ride when we return if time is getting late..

But walking there halfway (not even halfway, maybe only 5%), it started to get dark. We called the van to come and fetch us in case it gets raining while walking. I was delighted with the cool feeling and no need to walk while comfortably sitting in an air-con mini van to Chek Jawa (S$2.50/pax/ride).

However, the rain just get bigger and bigger… Until we decided that it was impossible to enjoy the marine life in Chek Jawa. So we ‘acted’ a bit in front of the van driver to convince him that we were horrified that there wasn’t any shelter in front of Chek Jawa. We certainly didn’t want to alight of the van and got drenched and stranded in that place, wet and full of mosquitoes.. Yes we took that same van back.. and S$5 poorer (each person). Funny incident… =p

While it is still raining, with nothing else to do, we went for early seafood dinner. Once we ordered and food had come, the rain has stopped. Most people in restaurant were gone. They r just there to drink water and waiting for rain to stop. But we had to finish our food. And unfortunately our food is not as delicious as what we expected. We were quite disappointed though.

Anyway after meal, we checked out the nearby quarry and had mini nature walk and sight-seeing. Oh we spotted some birds camofloguing among the trees.. and Yes we saw a CROCODILE!!

A crocodile under water?

A crocodile under water?

Ok we didn’t see the actual body, but there is a trace of it moving from East of the lake to the West of the lake… Horrified!! After walk, I also had the coconut juice (cooling, yummy and sweet – Fantastic!!). Soon after, the rain started again.. so we decided to end this trip.

Overall, despite the rain, it was a good break to smell the fresh air and get in touch with the nature =0)

Some photos we took:

Nicee…. What is the name of this flower?

A bird we saw camouflaging itself among the branches of tree.. We needed to do a lot of zooming using Jo’s camera Nikon P90 to get this shot..

Coconut tree.. nope the coconut juice and fruit we drank/ate was not from this tree… =p *wink*

The KangXi Emperor

2 04 2009

We had free entry to the special exhibition “The Kang Xi Emperor” @ Asian Civilization Museum (ACM) on 29th March 2009. It was not our first time visiting ACM, and from our last visit, we already knew this special exhibition is coming. We are still contemplating whether we will come again..

But luckily Linda told us last minutes that last weekend 28/3 and 29/3 – it was free entrance to visit ACM. So on sunday, we decided to drop by for a while. Queue was long and once ur inside, no photography allowed. I was caught once taking photo inside =p Get a shock of my life, the guard even asked me to delete the foto, in front of him… >.<

Ok I am not sure the main purpose of not able to take foto is to disclose the content of the whole exhibition or to protect the treasures displayed in this exhibition… anyway… we just enjoyed the exhibition, quite not bad.. except it is not in a very big scale..

The Living Courthouse

30 03 2009

Visited the Supreme Court – The Living Courthouse with Joanne, Esther and Linda on 14th March 2009

Packed with many people, first time visiting the Supreme court, very big place with 8 storeys, saw a colleague,  Eugene, there too, went around to get answers to get stamps for shoe bag souveniers..

Understand also some of stereotype topics like do judges or lawyers wear wigs, do judges use gauge to keep order, How you call judge in court…

interesting..

Had enjoyed myself on this day..

Thanx to Linda for forwarding this invitation to us.. and this also fit Jo’s plan about knowing Singapore better.. What other better way of knowing our Legal system than this? And it is free somemore! *Woohooo*

Queue was long, but was orderly and fast.. we were lucky we didn’t listen to people’s saying that it will be too crowded to go.. otherwise, we would have miss all these!

Group pic at Court House

We didn’t able to see the criminal enactment – “Who pushed Humpty?” though… as it was long queue and not moving! I was curious who is the culprit! Who Dunnit! And my answer was shown below, pointing at the most prime suspect – the big bad wolf! Well all evidence was againts him!

WHO DUNNIT?

WHO DUNNIT?

And you know who is the culprit eventually?

I asked Eugene… and got the most unexpected answer…

The story is ….

Humpty was sleepy… so sleepy that he…. fell off the wall and resulted himself in concussion.

*cheeeyyyy*

Though we are very different in thinking, action, characters, belief, eating-habits, still… I just hope that you will be happy. I know I may said something that displease you now or in the past, but it was just that I am worried. I am a cynical. I am bad friend. I am ________.

No matter what happens or what are your decision/actions, I wish you the very best and be happy for you. =)
Happy sweet birthday, Elaine! *muack* =)

Asian Civilization Museum Visit

24 02 2009

My fren, Jo, has a goal for Yr 2009.. so she wrote this email invitation to us..

Hello all,
I’m planning a series of outings to visit different parts of Singapore in upcoming weeks. I hope these upcoming outings/ trips/ visits will help us to get to know more about Singapore, to enjoy Singapore and to explore places that we may never been before. This is my first trial, I hope to stay regular on this.

and so we are there in Asian Civilization Museum (ACM) for a visit (though not full force) on 15th Feb 2009.

On this day, we also attended the special programme held in ACM – Konnichiwa Sunday! Japanese Music, Crafts and Storytelling. Jo was very happy with the トトロ / Totoro (theme) songs played in the Special Programme – Konichiwa Sunday.. We enjoyed the plays by Ueno Koshuzan, Shakuhachi Master.

We also learnt how to play the Shakuhachi.. but I could not blow a tune.. Only Jo can!! Clever her!!

And there was also Origami! by JAS Origami Group, so juskawaime took the chance and took photos with them and a handsome boy…

Though ACM is not purely abt Singapore (it is abt the whole Asia – culture, history, religions), we did enjoy some of the video clips and the story behind certain practices, and was amazed at some knowledge sharing. A good 2hrs ++ spent! =)

Have you visited ACM before? It is just 5mins walk from Raffles Place MRT.
